Digital Pigeon is known for being lightning fast and incredibly reliable for large file sharing. But did you know there are different levels of speed depending on the plan you’re on and how you have Digital Pigeon configured?
We’ve developed this speed tool to let you see how much faster you can upload and download files if you use our Standard or CDN speeds.
Our standard method relies on your Internet Service Provider to establish a route to our servers, while the CDN method relies on the global Cloudfront Content Delivery Network.
The bottom line: They’re both quicker than just about every other platform out there… it’s just matter of by how much.

How do I access the CDN speeds?
This is a toggle in your Settings that will give you access to CDN speeds. For a step-by-step guide on how to do this, visit Updating Account Details and Settings.

Speed test FAQs
Why do I get different results if I run the
test again?
Your Internet connection speeds will fluctuate based on the amount of traffic going through your network at any one time. So if your colleague (or someone else using your network) is searching something online, your speeds will differ based on how much data is being sent and received through your entire network.
The speeds we report to you are the average for that small window of time in which we conduct a test. (All speed tests use the same method for measuring upload and download speeds.)
How long will a larger-than-1GB file take to
send or receive?
It isn’t an exact science, but you can multiply the time it takes to transfer 1GB by the number of GB you’d like to send.
For example, if you want to find out how long a 20GB file will take to transfer, multiply your 1GB speed calculator result by 20.
So if it takes 60 seconds for you to upload 1GB, it will take about 20 minutes for you to upload 20GB. There are few “economies of scale” when it comes to bandwidth - it doesn’t generally get faster or slower the less or more you transfer.
The CDN option is supposed to be faster, so why is mine slower?
If you’re closer to the server location, you may find that your CDN uploads and downloads take more time than the Standard method. Here’s why:
The further away a server is from you, the bigger the difference CDN makes. So if you’re based in Singapore and send files within SE Asia, there should only be a small change in speed between the CDN and Standard methods. (Note: our Asia servers are based in Singapore).
Here’s an analogy to explain this further:
Think of CDN as catching a flight to get to a destination, and Standard as driving. If you’re traveling just a short distance, it can be better to drive. You can take back roads to avoid traffic, it’s cheaper, and it comes with less preparation than taking a plane.
However, if you want to go from one side of the world to another, you should take a plane. No matter how clear the roads are, a flight is the most direct and fastest way to get from Hong Kong to Canada.
However, another benefit of using CDN to transfer files is that it will mitigate any slow transfers if your Internet service provider (ISP) is busy in peak usage times.
Luckily, with Digital Pigeon you have the option of using Standard or CDN based on what you are uploading and to whom. If you’re receiving large files, we match the uploader's location to our closest server to make things as fast as possible for them.
